Scope

Ringwood RSL wanted the glass entry under its existing LED sign to carry the club’s content, without blocking the light or the view out to the street.

We installed a transparent LED screen on the inside of the toughened glass: 4.5m wide and just over 2.8m high, 720 x 447 pixels at a 6.25mm pixel pitch. There is no cabinet. The screen is made of slim LED strips bonded directly to the glass, driven from two control bars that run along the top and bottom edges.

Bonding a screen to glass is a conditions job. The glass has to be clean and warm enough for the adhesive to take, so the control bars went up first and were fully powered and dressed before a single strip touched the glass. All 18 columns were then set out from one datum, so small errors couldn’t add up across the width, and every strip was handled with anti-static precautions.

Outcome

From the footpath the entry now reads as a sign that changes – the RSL crest, club promotions, a historic Ringwood streetscape. From inside the club it is still a glass entry, with the trees, the car park and the road visible straight through the picture.

It’s the latest of several jobs at Ringwood RSL, alongside the full-width LED wall in the sports bar, overhead LED in the gaming room, the LED sign over the entry and the LED screen in the function room.
