EcoCycle Hemmant – Two LED Blades Meeting at 60 Degrees

Scope

In October 2024 an architect working on a new EcoCycle facility sent Cove Technologies a drawing set for six outdoor LED signs. Most of the set was ordinary. Two elements were not.

The first was a pair of LED blades, each 500mm wide by 4880mm tall, meeting at a 60-degree angle on the leading corner of the building and running the full height of the tower. The second was a curved banner built on a 900mm radius.

Neither is catalogue product. A blade 500mm wide and nearly five metres tall is a tall, narrow format that has to be engineered rather than picked from a range, and a 60-degree corner means the two faces have to line up on the leading edge so the corner reads as one sign instead of two. The architect chased the enquiry twice inside eight days.

What was built

Cove worked the design through with the architect rather than sending the brief back as too hard. The blades were built to the drawn geometry and installed on the corner tower, running full-colour content the height of the building against the printed cladding, with the EcoCycle logo and a time and temperature readout at the head of the totem.

The rest of the package went in around it: the fascia signage across the weighbridge canopy, the boundary wall elements, and the outdoor LED billboard on the recycling shed roofline.

Outcome

The corner is the thing people notice. From the driveway the two blades read as a single continuous face of light on the leading edge of the building, which is exactly what the architect drew and the reason the brief went outside the usual signage suppliers in the first place.

Cove continues to support the site.

This project is the argument for bringing an LED supplier into the design conversation early. The hard parts here — the 60-degree junction, the curve, the blade proportions — were resolved on the drawings, not discovered on site.
