EcoCycle Auckland – A 14-Metre Outdoor LED Billboard
Scope
One screen, across the face of a new EcoCycle facility in Auckland: roughly 13.8 metres wide by 2.9 metres high – about 40 square metres of LED, mounted on a wall that sits in full daylight for most of the working day.
At that size the screen is not signage in the usual sense. It is a billboard on the side of the building, readable from the road at distance, and it is the first thing anyone sees arriving at the site.
What it took
High-bright panels were specified so the screen holds up against direct daylight rather than washing out. A colour sensor reads the ambient light and trims the brightness automatically – legible at two in the afternoon, comfortable at nine at night, without anyone having to think about it. Content is scheduled through the cloud, so it can be changed from anywhere.
The mounting frame weighs close to a tonne. Cove’s condition on the job was that the steel design came back to Cove for approval before fabrication, and the local structural engineer added brace channels so the load bears correctly through the building’s frame.
Three per cent spares are held on site and the panels carry a five-year commercial parts warranty. The screen was handed over in August 2026.
Outcome
A screen this size changes what the building is. It carries the brand at billboard scale on a road frontage the business already owned, and the content behind it is a few clicks rather than a reprint and a crane.
If you are weighing up an outdoor LED screen on a building face, this is the format to look at – and the size is the point.
